Q: One category I’ve been having trouble researching is the combo daypack/camera bag. I have a mirrorless camera, and I like to travel with it and an extra lens, plus all the usual daypack stuff (snacks, water bottle, jacket, guidebooks, laptop, etc.). I’d like a bag with a camera slot, but most backpacks are all camera storage, which I don’t need for a mirrorless camera and an extra lens. So I’m looking for a bag that will: I currently have the Kata Bumblebee DL-210, which has served me well, but (a) it’s a bit too bulky and (b) the non-camera storage is pretty unstructured. I’d like an update. *At the time of publishing, the price was $80. It makes total sense that you might want to be able to stash your lunch, a , and your alongside your camera. In particular, the Hoodoo 18 is specifically designed for hiking with a mirrorless-size camera and does a good job of not looking too much like a camera bag—although the lack of an external water-bottle pocket is a bummer. The other option is to protect your camera and lenses with an insert or wrap that you can just throw into the bag of your choice along with the rest of your stuff. A bag insert, such as those from Tenba or Timbuk2, will allow you to bundle up your lens and body together as a bag within a bag. If you want something minimal, you can find a bunch of similar-looking soft wraps that can go around your camera; you can put your lenses in individual lens cases. Or just wrap them in a sock. That’s what I tend to do, because I’m a lazy and horrible person.
