Attention to DetailThe hood was the one part of the Stryn that could use some work: poor cord-routing was a liability on windy outings, and tiny cordlocks were all but unusable with gloves on. I also subjected this jacket to a battery of lab tests, each designed to evaluate a specific performance characteristic. Since water resistance, air permeability, thermal insulation and abrasion/pick resistance are measurable absolutes, I was able to compare these individual performance attributes for each jacket tested; this gives us the ability to simulate “head-to-head” testing of products on an on-going basis. Scores for more subjective characteristics (fit, comfort, etc.) were derived from standardized tests designed to evaluate stability and comfort under a climbing harness, under a 40L pack, and over various layers.
