Looking at either the osprey sojourn 65 or the ozone 75, and wondering if anyone has tried both bags? Also, as a 169cm woman, would anyone recommend the 80L bag instead? I've looked at Eagle Creek too, but it's way over my budget. Have read some old posts on this topic but there are many more of these kind of bags available so I think it needs a new thread. I understand that there is a compromise when trying to combine a case and a pack, but after experiencing Paris's million staired metro system with a suitcase as well as hurting my back and toppling over with a massive pack, I choose convertible. Why are you interested in such huge backpacks? Why do you need all that space? Last year, I ordered a timbuk 2 wingman med., due to my ht., I couldn't sit down with it, I had to return it.

I hope this info helps. I have an Eagle Creek flipswitch that is a carryon I enjoy. I have the Osprey Sojourn 60L (not 65) and I'm a huge fan of the brand and that particular bag. I used it for 5 weeks in Colombia with various climates from hot to cold, and for other trips within the Netherlands. For general traveling (without camping) I'd stick to the 60L which is already a lot. I only carried it on my back ONCE in all those 5 weeks in Colombia, all the rest of the time I was able to wheel it. I was so happy with that, after 16 years with a traditional backpack, sweating and getting tired from the weight and bulk. (Oh, I am 1.71m) Its wheels and zippers are super sturdy, they have all kinds of handy things like a whistle, double zippers that you can use a small padlock on, handy compartments and straps all over, and the shoulder and hip straps are as comfortable and good as on any traditional backpack. Edited: 28 December 2014, 03:05 Thanks so much for all the great responses.

@Martain I Need the bag because I will be working in a different town each week for 2 month contracts and will need to live out my bag whilst constantly moving around. Also I travel a lot and I think it would be a great investment. We are almost the same height so it's good to hear that the bag was comfortable. Now I just need to find somewhere in South Africa that sells it for a reasonable price. Is that a Flip Switch 22? I purchased it for my forthcoming 7-week trip to Europe. It's a bit smaller than the wheeled duffle bag my wife is taking but I prefer a hands-free pack specially for staircases. How long of a trip have you taken it? Keep in mind that the length of the trip is immaterial for luggage size... you take the very same stuff on a 2 week trip as a 6 month trip. Size only comes into play if you're doing something outside the usual hotel/hostel travel though fairly warm climates. Trekking, camping, cold weather, climbing gear, snorkelling gear, still/video/sound package, etc...

those are issues that may require luggage larger than carry-on size. If you can, stretch to the Eagle Creek Switchback. Well worth the money. No matter what warrantee that they do honour (twice in four years). Not manufacturing problems - abuse / vandalism. I already have the FlipBack. I was tagging (dragged) along with my wife at a nearby Marshall's and I saw it on clearance, I think I paid about $45 for it. Having used their travel pouches and other items I knew their quality reputation and just could not pass it Does the 22" measurement, include the handle & wheels?
