It provides Navy personnel recommended independent reading, which contributes to both professional and personal growth, education and development within the Navy Community. There are 18 titles on the Essential Reading List which are arranged in categories that align with the three key tenets of the CNOs Sailing Directions: "Warfighting First", "Operate Forward" and "Be Ready."
