If you like Southern-style cooking, you might want to try the new Fresh Ingredients restaurant at 1001 W. Killarney St., U. Owner/chef Dominisha Sayles of Champaign describes her eatery as a Louisiana-style restaurant. "We have wonderful fried green tomatoes, frog legs and genuine Louisiana jambalaya," said Sayles, who decided to open her own restaurant after working at The Bistro for several years. Fresh Ingredients has seven employees and is open from 6:30 to 10 a.m. for breakfast and 5 to 10 p.m. for dinner. In additional to traditional breakfast items, the restaurant specializes in strawberry and blueberry pancakes. A downtown Champaign restaurant has begun offering a Sunday brunch. Miga, a modern American restaurant at 301 N. Neil St., Suite 104, launched its Sunday brunch a few weeks ago, according to sales and marketing director Maghan Fettes. "We offer American food with an Asian influence," Fettes said. "Each menu item is unique and handcrafted to perfection. The brunch is reasonably priced with large servings, great service, and a unique ambiance." How did the restaurant get its name? "Miga" is Korean for "place with a beautiful taste" or "taste of beauty," Fettes said. Miga is open 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The new brunch is available from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays. The spotlight item on the brunch menu is Chashu Benedict. "It is similar to eggs benedict and includes braised pork, sliced onion, cucumbers, poached egg, hollandaise sauce and a steamed bun, and we serve it with a green salad," Fettes said.
The other highlights on the brunch menu are the Miga Bloody Mary, Galbi Burrito and Omelet Bowl. Spicy Tang has opened its doors at 611-A E. Green St., C, just east of Campus Florist. For people who want less-spicy fare, the restaurant has appetizers, such as egg rolls, roast pork and barbecue wraps, as well as meats served with fried rice or noodles.
