KATA was founded in 1992 by Nitzan Kimchi and Dror Tishler who, both of military background, had been developing equipment solutions for themselves and other special units prior to establishing KATA. KATA is part of the VITEC Group plc, along with companies such as Manfrotto, Gitzo and Avenger. The DR-465i Digital Rucksack is designed to hold a DSLR with mounted lens, 2-3 additional lenses and strobe, a tripod and your personal belongings. This bag also comes with a rain cover. The main compartment at the bottom of the bag holds your Camera, and the modular dividers will custom fit to organise and protect your additional gear. The large top compartment will hold personal gear or additional equipment, with smaller internal pockets to store your smaller items. The padded bottom and mid-section can be removed to convert this from a camera bag to a general rucksack. The external pockets offer more storage and the tripod support pocket pulls out from a side pocket at the bottom of the bag.

KATA also offers a range accessories to compliment the DR-465i, ranging from custom dividers to trolleys. External Size: H43cm x L34cm x W16cm Main Compartment Internal Size: H19cm x L33cm x W15cm In terms of performance this bag, for me, does everything that I need it to. It fits in everything I could need for a day of shooting…..still leaving space for drinks and snacks! It is really compact, even when it’s full, which enables it to fit in small spaces and the fabric it’s made of is really durable. I’ve had this bag in some really tough conditions and I have never once found myself complaining about any aspect of it. These bags are made of ballistic Nylon, which is resistant to abrasion and tearing, and uses the KATA TST Rib structured protection, which is located on parts of the bag that are sensitive to shock. To keep your gear protected, Kata developed the Aeriform Foam, a super light, perforated, laminated and reinforced foam. This bag also features padding for your back to, as well as chest straps to ensure carrying comfort.

This bag is really well made and really strong. My previous camera bag was the KATA DR-465 Digital Rucksack (earlier model without the tripod pocket or detachable mid-section) in hi-vis yellow and white, the reason I upgraded was because I loved the bag but the colour was impractical. I purchased the KATA DR-465i from Warehouse Express, the RRP is £99.95, but as this was a sale item, it was discounted to £49.99 BARGAIN! It is light, comfortable to carry, and a really compact bag that will hold a great deal of kit. The main compartment is designed really well, everything fits, it’s fully adjustable and easy to get to all your kit when you need it. This bag will easily contain everything you need for a full days shoot. In short this bag is light, comfortable, holds camera gear securely, streamlined and fits a lot of kit in it. The only negative point I can see is it comes with a rain cover, whilst this shouldn’t be a bad thing….. the rain cover for the model I have (DR-465i BB) is bright yellow!
