Every week members of St John’s bring in items to be given to one of our seasonal outreach programs.  Whether collecting knitted hats for the Seaman’s Church Institute, supplies for the Family Resources Centers, food for the Backpack Program, or care packages for our service men and women overseas, these offerings are a concrete way to show love for our neighbors. In addition to collections and special offerings, St. John’s is committed to doing hands on ministry with our brothers and sisters in need.  doberman backpack givenchyHere are a couple of examples.ragbrai backpack Laundry Love is a nationwide ministry that seeks to give individuals or families the option of redirecting funds from laundry expenses toward food, medical, gas, or transportation costs, as well as school supplies and other basic, everyday necessities.  jigglypuff backpack ebay
Members of our congregation in Trigg County host free laundry nights at the local laundromat as a part of this ministry on the fourth Tuesday of each month. The people of St. John’s join together to go on short term domestic mission trips to areas of our country impacted by crises or natural disasters.  Most recently, a joint group from our parish and the Episcopal College Fellowship at Murray State University took part in flood relief efforts in Baton Rouge, LA in partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana.  zaino backpack daineseParticipants gutted houses for homeowners and helped with mold remittance.  Wherever we go, our fellowship with one another is strengthened as we live out our discipleship. Each month, our clergy visit the Ross-Cash Center, a women’s prison in Caldwell County, to celebrate Holy Eucharist with the ladies who are serving out sentences there.  Members of our parish community share in this ministry through the newsletters that we mail to members of our Ross-Cash congregation, as well as establishing pen pal relationships with individuals there.
Our relationships don’t end when these ladies return to life outside, however.  We offer them help making the transition back to their communities and, if they return to our area, remind them that they are always welcome at St. John’s.RIVER JOHN H.U.B Community Centre Updates/EVENTS added a new photo.RIVER JOHN H.U.B Community Centre Updates/EVENTSWatch your mail at end of week for important info re. community meeting to hear your opinions/ideas on future options. 7pm Jan 10 at the H.U.B. RIVER JOHN H.U.B Community Centre Updates/EVENTShttp://thechronicleherald.ca/…/1413327-special-report-hub-s…SPECIAL REPORT: Hub school dreams die a slow deathRIVER JOHN H.U.B Community Centre Updates/EVENTS shared George D Lewis Home and School.'s photo.I know our school has closed and we have all had to move on in River John and our community is still strong but some of us are still in touch with, interested in and supporting other communities who are trying for HUB solution --( as we said it was never just about RJ) George D Lewis is now the 8th school to have HUB rejected and like many of us, those people are determined to not take no for an answer. It is time Dept of ED is held accountable for this ..and Minister come...s clean and admits she was not and never has been in favour of HUB solution or revises parameters and sets up pilot and a team to work with a community to succeed and create a HUB. ( not a cookie cutter top down one. )
A quick letter from those who feel invested ---( if you have nothing else to do HA!)..could keep the conversation going or at least shine a light on how inept/unfair the Dept has been--- as community after community of volunteers work hard to make the case for a new way forward. The way it is -- is an example of indifference by Gov't to the cost on people's lives, the stress on teachers and families and communities -- an example of bureaucratic bullying ---at best. We teach children not to bully. They count on us moving on after our schools close and isolating community by community. There is strength in numbers. A letter in support of George D Lewis school would take five minutes. The premier can do what BC premier did and pilot a HUB solution. /…/school-district-reverses-decisio…/ George D Lewis Home and School.Hello everyone. George D Lewis Hubschool society will be holding a public meeting Wednesday night 7:15 at the school. e D Lewis Hub School would look like. A group of us have been working hard on this for over a year.
We have a plan that will set the standards for the Hubschools in Nova Scotia. But as most of you have heard the school board has decided to vote against our plan we submitted June 1. Which we stated was only the beginning for our vision off the hubschool. We tried time and time again to work with this school board but as we know they lack vision and can't think outside the box. Our group has been knocking down every roadblock that the school board has put up and we will knock down this one as well and once again prove them wrong. This school board will learn that the community of Louisbourg will not give up the fight. Hope to see everyone there. shared a link to the group: River John, Nova Scotia.Line Dancing at the H.U.B.
