State police investigate fatal Northway crashCourtesy: Trevor MikelVIEW PHOTO GALLERYAAMOREAU -- State Police are investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash on I-87 Sunday morning.Investigation reveals that a Toyota Highlander was traveling northbound at about 9 a.m., when the operator fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle went off the left side of the roadway, then back onto the road, and overturned several times.State police said one person was ejected and died at the scene. The driver and other passengers were treated at the scene by Moreau EMS and South Glens Falls Fire, Wilton Fire and Wilton EMS. Four individuals were transported to Saratoga Hospital with minor injuries. One subject was airlifted to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.No names are being released, pending notification of family.closeAn internal error has occurred. In the Snoqualmie Pass area, the problem is loose wet avalanches which are likely on all aspects, near and above treeline. Also possible cornices on generally northeast aspects. The campsite had views of The Mountain and the Tatoosh Range, and from just a bit farther uphill we could see Mt Adams, Mt St Helens, and Goat Rocks. Active wind-loading on a considerable avalanche danger day kept us conservative and away from gaining the top of the ridge below the saddle. But it was still absolutely amazing, and we did some other traveling in avy-safe terrain to extend our day. But the four students and three instructors were treated to blue skies. And between them they managed to complete a successful snow cave and a trench shelter! Seattle Mountaineers Snowshoeing Committee added 2 new photos.While this year's snow season hasn't been the best in recent years (and our snowshoeing students have often returned home soggy) it has still offered the opportunity for some fantastic vistas.
