Giving Hearts Day unleashes a chorus of voices for charity giving. Organizations are raising public consciousness about important issues and the value of arts, education and other citizen-funded causes that add quality to our lives. Giving Hearts Day is a large-scale, regional giving day – but a closer look behind the scenes at individual charities helps show what it’s really all about.Since 1999, the Durham Rescue Mission has held an annual community outreach event, to provide new backpacks filled with new school supplies for at-risk children.  The Durham Rescue Mission wants to give children the opportunity to be prepared for a great school year. On August 19th, students with their parents or guardian can come to 1201 E Main Street and enjoy a day filled with free hot dogs, carnival games, clothing, groceries, and a new backpack filled with school supplies! Our staff, residents, and volunteers hope our Back to School Party helps encourage children to stay in school! We want to be a blessing to school aged children. 

Please help spread the word about our “Back to School Party and Backpack Give-away” at the Durham Rescue Mission on Wednesday, August 19th at 9:00am, where they can receive a free backpack filled with school supplies.
