I own many camera bags including one from Lowepro (Lowepro SlingShot 202 AW) but none of them fit my needs for my camping trip. I wanted a bag that (1) provided a padded easy-access compartment to hold my Canon 7D with 1-2 extra lenses and extra battery/memory card, (2) had extra room for food and extra clothing, (3) was comfortable especially for long hikes, (4) had room for a hydration pouch, and (5) featured rain or water protection. This backpack had all of these!Camera Compartment:I thought of using one of my normal backpacks for the trip but I did not want to risk my gear bouncing around inside. I was extremely impressed with the camera compartment. It was padded all around and was separate from the rest of the bag.

The compartment also opens from the side which allowed quick access. I did not want to bring my full camera gear on this trip; I just wanted to bring my essential zoom lenses to get scenery and action shorts of my family. It fit my Canon 7D with 17-55mm f/2.8 and 70-300mm f/4-5.6L with hoods attached snugly.Stuff Compartment:Above the camera compartment was a large open space to store whatever I needed for the day. This part of the bag opened with a cinch cord on the top and had a small zippered compartment inside. It works very well , but the back is a little stiff. I'd prefer a little more flex. I bought this to carry my digital SLR with me on hikes. I do wish the pack had some more smaller pockets on the front but overall have found it useful. Great bag, padded camera compartment fit my Canon Rebel with the standard 18-55mm lens, plus my Canon 55-250mm lens in the lower slot, with enough wiggle room for my iPod and a... I tried a few other packs with similar features (side-load camera pocket was the primary feature I wanted) and this one suited me best. I have had this pack for about 4 years and have taken it on countless hikes. I like the pack, but I don't LOVE it. Just what I needed for longer day hikes. Nice padded area for camera and lens. Well designed with good space for carrying food and extra items for a long day out. It's for small cameras. I enjoy hiking and like to bring my DSLR along with me, but that means bringing a small backpack for water, snacks and other supplies as well as my camera bag, which can get in the... I hike a lot and this pack has been perfect for me to take on trails!It fits my cam and I can usually fit a couple other lenses in it as well (none too large, though).
